Happy Memorial Day!

Memorial Day weekend is so exciting. It's the great big welcome to the summer season. Many of us have the whole summer planned, while others are ready to go with the flow. Personally, I have a jam packed June but haven't started planning past that. I am so excited to take you all along, but for now, let's talk about this past week!

On Monday, I received my new burger fanny pack in the mail and I am very excited to put it to use this summer.

On Tuesday, we had tornadoes in the area! I spent most of my evening in the bathroom with my fiancée, Mike, and our fur babies, Seymour and Yunalesca. We were in there for a few hours with no update, so a livestream on TikTok guided us on what was going on. When we went outside the next morning, multiple trees had fallen, including the one right outside our apartment, which could have easily fell on our building.

After processing our luck on Wednesday, I tried on more wedding dresses after having multiple panic attacks and fear of not finding "the one". Unfortunately, I still wasn't able to find the one for me, but the visit did help me narrow down what I like and emphasize the things I already didn't like.

Saturday turned to be a complicated day. I had signed up for the Run MadTown Twilight 5k a couple months ago and recently found that Quiet Riot was playing at Brat Fest at the exact same time. Quiet Riot was one of my favorite bands in high school and I played Bang Your Head and Cum on Feel the Noize on repeat. After weeks of deliberation, I decided to do the 5k and hope to catch Quiet Riot another time, maybe even at Rock Fest later this year.

So I started my day at Brat Fest, which was unfortunately the only day of the Fest without pouring rain. I got in right after the Bun Run and before all the crowds came in. I started with an amazing brat (for $5) and then had a roasted corn later in the day. I watched a little bit of the bands including Take Back the Sun. I didn't do too much else there besides buy a few pieces of merch.

I filmed Festivals and Events when I returned home and then started prepping for my 5k. I got downtown a little early in case traffic/parking was bad. I wandered into one of my favorite stores, Mochi. They had a few adorable Tuxedo Sam items, my favorite Sanrio character, but I decided to wait on the purchase.

At MadTown, I visited the SpudMobile and met Alice in Dairyland! I also took some pre-race photos, so thank you to all the random people willing to take photos for me!

The race started going up Bascom Hill. I 100% would prefer to go uphill the first mile than the last. The rest of the race was really beautiful and not strenuous. It was my first time on this road and part of the Lakeshore path, and I enjoyed it very much so will be back to walk again. When I got to the finish line, the woman giving me my medal started yelling at me since my number was on my back. I had actually tried to look prior to the race if I could, but saw a few others with it on their back or dog, so didn't think much of it. She yelled that my time would be off, but I wasn't exactly there to win. Also, after all that work, I didn't need to hear about it when receiving my medal especially when I had got to the race early and no one said anything. I did take my time and finished in a little under an hour, 624 out of 649 which I am proud of! My daily walks didn't prepare me for a challenge, so I will continue to practice and grow!

I edited some videos and then jumped into bed. Sunday was an early day as we were headed to the Grand Opening of the American Giants Museum! It was a three hour drive and we had a Wendy's breakfast on the way down. I hadn't had their breakfast in a while but found the honey butter chicken biscuit delightful.

Once at the museum, I immediately saw Silly America (Valerie) who I was so excited to meet! We hung out and visited the museum, listened to Joel Baker of American Giants, and met more great roadside attraction influencers! We all went to lunch at Country-Aire which I promised myself I would get a slice of pie at later once the heat exhaustion wore off, but missed it, so I will be back! Next time, they should have their Uniroyal Gal outside holding a pie!

We headed back to the museum to welcome the Texaco Big Friend. Once we said our greetings, we said our goodbye's so we could start the journey home. I am sad I missed out on the installation of the Big Friend, but I am excited to see him on my next visit.

Mike and I stopped at Bob Evan's, our favorite chain diner, for dinner. Mike enjoyed the pot roast and I enjoyed the chick n noodles over biscuit. I took a peanut butter pie to go.

Halfway home, I stopped for gas, but also for root beer from The Root Beer Stand. It was so good and I was surprised by their corn nuggets. Very fitting for the day, Papa Burger was outside greeting visitors.

Happy Trails!
